The Grade 11 English non-fiction unit is an extension of our Grade 9 and Grade 10 comprehensive school-based prevention program. The program is offered for both the university and college / essential level, each consisting of 4 non-fiction units and containing 24 lessons that address the issues of media violence, bullying, dating violence, and substance use & abuse. Similar to the Grade 10 English program, these are all issues identified by adolescents as problems they are facing and fit the triad of violence, sexual behaviour, and substance use that are central focus of the Fourth R Core Program.
This program involves problem-solving techniques and alternative actions to assist youth in making positive decisions. The curriculum facilitation can take between 25-30 periods, and the material includes learning strategies, activities, rubrics, and innovative teaching methods for healthy relationships. Students find the units develop important life skills that enhances the quality of their peer relationships.
