ABORIGINAL TRANSITION CONFERENCE

CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE, LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR FUTURE

On November 26th, The Fourth R hosted an Aboriginal Transition conference for Grade 8 students. This is the third conference, designed to assist First Nations youth transition from elementary school. Research has shown students from small communities can have difficulty adapting to this change. The program pairs elementary students with successful secondary students and gives Aboriginal youth an opportunity to meet with mentors and hear inspirational speakers.

BRINGING TOGETHER LONDON'S YOUTH - SEA OF PINK INITIATIVE

Students with the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) will join more than 135 elementary and secondary schools from across Canada as National Bullying Awareness Week kicks off Monday (Nov. 17), with the Sea of Pink campaign. Thousands of Thames Valley students and staff will be wearing pink T-shirts and other pink clothing as a sign that they are standing up against bullying behaviour and to show support for students who are victims of bullying. More than 11,000 TVDSB students purchased pink T-shirts bearing the slogans, "Be a Someone" and "Take a Stand" after the shirts were made available for purchase by the school board.
