2023 Health & Physical Education (HPE) Resource Updates
The Fourth R Health & Physical Education resources for grades 7 and 8 have been completely revised and now meet the new 2023 expectations as laid out by the Ministry of Education. Grade 9 resources include new and updated terminology and concepts that match curriculum expectations.

Grade 7 & 8 Health & Physical Education
The Fourth R Health & Physical Education resources for grades 7 and 8 have been completely revised and now meet the new 2023 expectations as laid out by the Ministry of Education. The document includes 27 (grade 7) and 28 (grade 8) comprehensive teacher-friendly lesson plans, each 40-45 (grade 7) and 35-40 (grade 8) minutes in length and includes learning strategies, activities, assessment tools and innovative methods for teaching healthy living concepts.
During the revision process, the resources were reviewed with a trauma-informed lens and include anti-stigma education related to problematic substance use and sexual health. Important key concepts have been integrated throughout all units in both resources. These include mental health and wellness, consent, social pressure and healthy relationships. The teaching-learning strategies used throughout the lessons provide an interactive and engaging environment for all students.
The Fourth R units and lessons are taught in sequence, building upon the skills presented in earlier lessons. Program expectations are matched to the individual lessons in the front of each Fourth R document. This will assist teachers when creating learning goals and when co-constructing success criteria with students.

The new version has been updated with information related to vaping, e-cigarettes, Canada's new food guide, social media and the most current terms, including STBBI's. In addition, it has been reviewed with a trauma-informed lens and includes anti-stigma education related to problematic substance use and sexual health. The teaching-learning strategies used throughout the lessons provide an interactive and engaging environment for all students.
The document includes 26 comprehensive teacher-friendly lesson plans, each 70 minutes in length and includes learning strategies, activities, assessment tools and innovative methods for teaching healthy living concepts.
