Fold the Line/Values Line Teacher Training

This is a teaching/learning strategy. Ask students to stand in a straight line according to a topic or question. It could be as simple as height or as complex as their thoughts about a topic they are studying in school (see Values Line, below). Once students have placed themselves along the line, label one end “A” and one end “B”. The student at end “A” will start walking toward the student at end “B” with students close to end “A” following in line until the line is folded in half and all students are standing across from someone. In situations where there are an odd number of students, the “middle” of the folded line would be a group of three. At this point, students can discuss a statement/question, can partner for an activity, and much more. NOTE: this strategy is often paired with Values Line but is also used as an independent strategy.
